  Index

BSA Lifeguard patchProgram Description
Renew your unexpired or recently expired BSA and/or Red Cross Lifeguard certification by participating in a ‘challenge’ on a single Saturday. This is a ‘challenge’ event for accelerated testing only, which means that no instruction is provided. Both BSA and Red Cross challenges can be completed simultaneously for dual renewal for those with dual certification.

Class size:  Minimum 2, maximum 20.

NOTE: Those taking the Red Cross Lifeguard challenge must register at least 3 weeks in advance since the Red Cross r.06 Lifeguard manual will be mailed to you. The challenge is based on the r.06 curriculum which began in 2007.

What to Bring

Current Lifeguard certification, or certification not more than 12 months expired (applies to BSA and Red Cross).
BSA Lifeguards must show current CPR certification.
Red Cross Lifeguards must show current CPR Pro certification, or certification not more than 12 months expired.
CPR pocket mask or barrier, if taking the Red Cross challenge.
Swimming attire and towel.
Shoes that can get wet (no open toes).
Sack lunch and drink.

Requirements
NO instruction is provided.
For Red Cross Lifeguard renewal, participants must successfully pass the prerequisite in-water skills tests, first aid skills, back boarding skills, CPR skills and scenarios, and pass all 3 written exams. All tests are based on the Red Cross r.06 Lifeguard Manual, which will be mailed to participants in advance. A bandage kit is provided for the Red Cross challenge, but no pocket mask will be provided.
For BSA Lifeguard renewal, participants must successfully demonstrate all in- water skills, first aid skills, back boarding and scenarios. No written exam.
For those taking both challenges simultaneously, you must register and pay for the 2 challenges separately.
You may only go though the challenge once on this day, even if you don’t pass.

CPR for the Professional Rescuer
for 2008

Red Cross Lifeguards, update to the r.06 curriculum and renew your CPR Pro certification in one Saturday (approx. 8 hours). While this program is primarily intended to recertify our Lifeguards in CPR Pro, there are no prerequisites and it is a complete certification course. Any BSA registered adult or youth 15 years or older, male or female, is welcome to register. The Red Cross CPR Pro manual and CPR Pocket Mask are included. This course will be held at the Atlanta Area Council Volunteer Service Center. Participants will have to bring a sack lunch and drink.
